Don’t seize 2-stroke auto: HC

Kolkata, Jan. 9

A Division Bench of Calcutta High Court comprising Mr S.S. Nijjar, Chief Justice, and Mr Justice P.C. Ghose on Friday directed that no two-stroke auto could be seized by the authorities until further orders. The Court also asked the Advocate-General to file a report to the Court every 15 days on the progress of conversion on two-stroke autos into four-stroke vehicles. The State Government today told the Court that it would convert all two-stroke autos into four-stroke vehi cles within July 31, 2009. The Court directed the State Government to publicise the scheme through the media. The Government also proposed that it would offer all financial assistance to auto owners who applied for conversion. Earlier, on July 18, 2008, the Court had passed an order directing the Government to take steps to remove two-stroke autos from Kolkata. –
