Mercedes Benz posts strong growth

Pune, Jan. 10

Mercedes Benz India sold 3,625 cars (46 per cent growth), 240 trucks (53 per cent growth) and 16 bus chassis in India, during the calendar year 2008. A total of 1,756 C Class cars were sold during the year as compared with the 779 units sold in 2007. The S-Class netted sales of 561 units in 2008, a growth of 23 per cent over 2007 (457 units in 2007). The E-Class sold 1,167 units. In the segment of Completely Built Imported cars, it recorded 20 per cent growth over 2007. The most popular was the M-Class (82 units), while the SLK-Class, CLS-Class, SL-Class and CL-Class were also well received. The Actos 4840K truck continued to find favour with mining operators and showed a growth of 53 per cent with 240 units sold against 157 units in 2007. Dr Wilfried Aulbur, Managing Director and CEO, Daimler India, said: “The first three quarters were very strong for Mercedes-Benz India and despite a lean fourth quarter, we have been able to achieve good results in 2008. We hope the economy will bounce back soon in response to various measures being effected. —
