Our Bureau Mumbai, Jan. 10 Tata Steel has said that Mr Kirby Adams will succeed Mr Philippe Varin as Chief Executive Officer of Corus and Tata Steel Europe, the holding company of its European operations. The company said American-born Mr Adams was formerly the Chief Executive of BlueScope Steel, headquartered at Melbourne, Australia. He had also served as Chairman of the International Iron and Steel Institute and has a wealth of international experience in the metal and mining industry. He will join the boards of Tata Steel Europe and Tata Steel. Mr Adams will relocate to London and commence working from early March 2009. He will report to Mr B. Muthuraman, Managing Director of Tata Steel. Tata Steel said Mr Varin is to step down on April 6. To ensure a smooth transition of executive leadership in Corus, Mr Varin will continue to serve on the boards of Tata Steel Europe and Tata Steel as a Non-Executive Director. Mr Varin worked closely with Mr Muthuraman to integrate Corus and Tata Steel. After the Corus acquisition, Mr Varin agreed to continue as Chief Executive for at least two years. Now that he has met his commitment, he has decided to seek a new challenge.
