NMP handles record fertiliser cargo

Mangalore, Jan. 10

New Mangalore Port handled record 15,259 tonnes of fertiliser cargo on Friday. A press release by New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) said here on Saturday that 15,259 tonnes of MOP (muriate of potash) cargo was discharged from the vessel m.v. ID Integrity on January 9. With 25,000 tonnes of MOP from Russia for Indian Potash Ltd, the vessel called at the port on January 8. Aspinwal & Co handled the cargo for distribution in Karnataka, the release said. This is the highest quantity of fertiliser ever handled at the port in a day from a vessel by surpassing the earlier record of 11,504 tonnes of MOP handled on September 20, 2008. During the current fiscal, the port handled 7.76 lakh tonnes of fertiliser cargo as against 7.07 lakh tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. -Our Bureau
