Karnataka mulls invocation of ESMA against truckers

Our Bureau

Bangalore, Jan. 11 The Karnataka State Government has decided to invoke National Security Act to ensure smooth transportation of petroleum products and see that the fuel supply is not disrupted.

As the Government had to enact a fresh statute to enforce Essential Services Maintenance Act because it has lapsed, it decided to take recourse to NSA for maintaining the supplies of essential commodities, including fuels like petrol and diesel. Briefing media persons on the decisions by the State Cabinet, Mr V.S. Acharya, and Minister for Home Affairs said the Government plans to introduce a Bill to promulgate ESMA afresh in the Belgaum Session State Legislature, scheduled to start on January 16.
