Vizag: Ideal port idles

In a desperate bid to stem losses, global containers’ operators are adopting measures such as rationalising sailing schedules, consolidating services, reducing ship speed, going for vessel sharing arrangements and enhancing port productivity. Strangely, none of these exercise has benefited Visakhapatnam port which, though it boasts of a state-of-the-art container terminal built and operated by a private firm, is yet to attract major mainline operators, save the membe r lines (SCI, PIL and K Line) of the Indfex II offering weekly services to China.
