Environment States - Kerala Green Building Council to open office in Kochi Our Bureau Kochi, Jan. 13 The Kochi chapter of Indian Green Building Council will be launched by Mr A.K. Balan, Minister of Electricity, here on January 17. Indian Green Building Council was established in 2001 and is represented by all stakeholders of construction industry – comprising corporate, Government and nodal agencies as well as architects, developers, product manufacturers and NGOs, among others. MembershipMr B.R. Ajith, Chairman, Indian Green Building Council, Kochi Chapter, in a press release said that probably this is the only organisation in the country that has the representation of various professionals and traders involved in the building construction industry. IGBC has established chapters in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Calcutta, apart from Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Pune. Green ConceptThe concept of a green building is to make the building as self-sustainable as possible by reducing its dependence on non-renewable energies. By this process there will be sizable reduction in carbon emission, resulting in slowing down of environmental degradation, which is responsible for phenomena like global warming and climate change, he said. The primary objective of the Kochi chapter will be to take up emergency measures to reach the message of green building to all avenues of construction industry, especially those areas where construction activity is galloping. In order to achieve this objective, IGBC-Cochin has already formed 10 task forces headed by prominent architects, builders and similar stakeholders in the State. The task forces will ensure focused planning and implementation of various schemes. More Stories on : Environment | Kerala
