Thiruvananthapuram, Jan. 13 Hindustan Latex Ltd, a central PSU engaged in the manufacture of contraceptives and other healthcare products, has entered the herbal healthcare products field in partnership with Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala (AVS), a renowned Ayurvedic institution in Kerala.

The company will introduce a range of products in the areas of women healthcare, healthcare generics, symptomatic relief, neutraceutical and personal healthcare in the Indian market and also take them to international markets.

Hindustan Latex had recently launched ‘Lactohil’, an Ayurvedic propriety medicine and a total health tonic, in collaboration with AVS. The medicine is specifically made to address inadequate lactation in women after delivery.

According to Mr M. Ayyappan, Chairman and Managing Director, Hindustan Latex, inadequate lactation is one therapeutic area where there is less scope for allopathic drugs and the only alternative is Ayurvedic formulations and ‘Lactohil” has shown satisfactory results.

He said that Ayurveda had, for centuries, been widely known and accepted for its widespread applications in rejuvenation and therapeutic healing treatment.

By introducing herbal healthcare products through ethical and over-the-counter route, the company is expanding its portfolio to benefit millions in the country and abroad, he said.

Growing market

The market for herbal products in the country is expected to grow at a rate of 12-15 per cent in the years ahead. With AVS, Hindustan Latex was going back to the nature, offering an array of traditional, time-tested and superior Ayurvedic formulations to all, Mr Ayyappan noted.

He said that with an ambitious growth plan, the company had diversified into pharmaceutical business by offering women healthcare products through a new Women’s Healthcare Division.

At present, the division has a pan-India presence with a team of 185 marketing personnel reaching out to 20,000 gynaecologists across the country, offering a wide range of products in the areas of contraceptives, dysfunctional uterine bleeding management, antenatal care, MTP drugs and rapid test kits.
