Rural Development States - Karnataka ‘Follow PPP model for a better rural India’ Our Bureau Mangalore, Jan. 28 Universities must take the lead in developing an integrated public-private participation (PPP) model to change the face of rural India with sound management practices, appropriate technologies and efficient utilisation of financial resources, said Prof D.P. Agarwal, Chairman of Union Public Service Commission. Delivering the 27th convocation address at Mangalore University here on Wednesday, he said that top brains in the universities, social and corporate sector should think about rural reconstruction. Productivity in agriculture sector remains poor and its contribution to GDP is too low. Research and development activities in the universities should result in the high-yielding variety of seeds, proper manure, irrigation and better markets for their produce and much more. “Till this happens, the rural areas shall see major migration of skilled and unskilled workers to urban areas, creating great stress on urban infrastructure,” he said.
