Hyderabad, Feb. 2 Hyderabad-based Biological E Ltd (Bio E) has set up a new 75-acre biopharmaceutical and vaccines manufacturing campus at SP Biotech Park (Phase 2) in Shameerpet, on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The facility was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, during the inaugural ceremony of BioAsia 2009 here on Sunday.

The company, in the first phase, has invested over Rs 300 crore in the facility which will manufacture vaccines and biopharmaceuticals that are crucial in the global effort to prevent childhood disease. These products are intended to be supplied to markets across the world including the US and Europe through the company’s strategic partnerships.

More investments

In the next phase, the company expects to invest an additional Rs 250 crore over the next two to three years in expanding capacities and creating infrastructure for the future pipeline products of the company.

Bio E manufactures and markets a range of vaccines and biologics including Tetanus, Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis, Hepatitis B, Haemophilus influenza Type B, and a DTwP-HBV combination vaccine.

In addition, Bio E had a number of vaccines in late stage development including a novel Japanese Encephalitis Vaccine as well as a Pentavalent vaccine.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Reddy said, “Biotechnology industry is defining innovation across the world in our time.” He urged foreign companies to work closely with Indian pharmaceutical firms to promote manufacture of good quality products and dietary supplements to improve the health of people.

Earlier, while speaking to the media, Mr Richard Stagg, British High Commissioner to India, said that there were a lot of opportunities for Indian pharmaceutical and biotech companies to have long term partnerships with the UK.
