T. Murrali

Pithampur, Feb. 2 Automobile and components manufacturers hired 20 per cent more engineering students at the JK Tyre Baja SAE India this year as compared to the previous edition in 2007.

Despite the economic slowdown that has impacted the automotive sector, companies hired over 60 engineering students at the JK Tyre Baja SAE India 2009 that concluded here on Sunday.

The event, in which engineering students designed and built off-road vehicles, is organised once in two years by the Society of Automotive Engineers India, along with National Automotive Testing and R&D infrastructure Project (NATRiP). Dr K.C. Vora, Head of the Automotive Research Association of India Academy, said, Bosch, Fiat, ITW Chemin, Mahindra & Mahindra, ARAI and NATRiP had placement cells at the show.

Except Fiat, all the companies conducted interviews and gave appointment letters to over 60 students. Fiat has collected resumes and plans to conduct interviews at its plant.
