Sports Marketing - Strategy Chennai Super Kings to choose cheerleaders on Vijay TV show
Our Bureau New Delhi, Feb. 2 In the run up of the Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings is lending its brand and captain to two shows on Star’s Vijay TV. Chennai Super Kings Juniors and Chennai Super Kings Cheerleaders is being promoted with MS Dhoni, captain of the IPL team, which made it to the finals in season one. V.B. Chandrasekhar, Badrinath, L. Balaji, Krishnamachari Srikkanth and percussionist Sivamani will all make an appearance on Vijay TV. Two hunts, one for a junior team which starts on February 21, and a 10-episode series looking for cheerleaders with dancing skills in the city, will be aired on the channel from February 20. “We wanted a television partner with whom we could associate and take this great brand to the roots of Tamil Nadu,” said Mr Rakesh Singh, Marketing Head, India Cements. ContentMr K. Sriram, General Manager, Vijay TV, expects the content to be interesting to both cricket lovers and general audiences. “This show will portray the aspirations of kids and their passion for the game, striking a chord with the families as well,” he says. The chosen cheerleaders will get to perform with Sivamani when the team plays. Co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders, Shah Rukh Khan, is already lending all his star power to ‘Knights and Angels’, the ‘be a cheerleader contest’ produced by his production house Red Chillies Entertainment. The show will be aired on NDTV Imagine and cricketer Saurav Ganguly will be judging the cheerleaders’ moves. The Junior Chennai Super Kings (8-12 years of age) will be chosen from auditions in Chennai, Coimbatore and Tiruchi. No, they won’t get to play along with Dhoni. But eventually, the 11 qualifiers will get to “watch all the matches of the team in Chennai sitting at the pavilion.” The best bowler, best batsman and best all-rounder will be allowed to hang around during net practice and travel with the team to any one of the other matches.
