New venture formed to bid for 3G, Wimax licence

Former CEOs of Datacom, Reliance Infocomm among promoters.

New Delhi, Feb. 2 Four high profile corporate executives, including Mr Ravi Sharma, former CEO of Datacom, Mr Pramod Saxena CEO of Oxygen, Mr B.D. Khurana former CEO of Reliance Infocomm and Mr Sanjiv Gupta, former CEO of Coca Cola India, have joined together to create new venture called Phi Enterprises Ltd.

The venture has been created to provide a platform for MNCs looking for partnership in India. “This is a first of its kind venture in India. We want to be angel partners (equity basis) for international enterprises/MNCs/VCs seeking opportunities or partnerships in India. We will also partner Indian companies seeking partnership with MNCs or funding from VCs,” said Mr Sharma, who was the CEO of Alcatel Lucent India before he moved to Datacom.

This venture has two companies. Phi Enterprises P Ltd will focus on sectors such as alternative power, defence electronics, railways, hospitality and infrastructure projects. Phi Televentures P Ltd will focus on new licences of Wimax, 3G, IPTV, MVNO and Mobile TV.

Mr Sanjiv Gupta will be associated with Phi Enterprises, while the other three will focus on the ICE sector.

Phi Televentures has also appointed two regional directors. Mr Pertti Johansson, former Vice-President of Qualcomm, will be a regional director for Americas, MEA and Africa and Ms Sylvie Richir, former Vice-President, Alcatel Lucent, will be the regional director for Europe, based in Paris.

Phi Enterprises has roped in four executives on the advisory board. This includes Mr R. Poornalingam, Chairman of C-DOT Alcatel Research Centre; Mr P.N. Devrajan, Ex-Group President of Reliance Industries; Mr Vishwanath, who is on the LIC Board and Karnataka Bank; and Mr Prem Behl, Chairman of Exhibition India.
