Century Textiles cuts output

Mumbai, Feb. 2

An adverse market scenario coupled with poor demand has forced Century Textiles & Industries to halve production in its Madhya Pradesh facility, states the company in a communiqu‚ to the Bombay Stock Exchange. It has indicated that this is only a temporary measure. "Our denim exports are hit and it is not economically viable to run the unit its full capacity," said Mr R.K. Dalmia, President of the company. He added that demand for denim had slowed down and several manufacturers had cut production. Century Textiles, part of the B K Birla group, saw its net profit plunge 68 per cent in the third quarter of this fiscal with a loss of Rs 24 crore. -Our Bureau
