Khusrokhan: Always up to the challenge!

“Homi brings expansive global experience and the highest personal integrity. He has the ability to motivate people and spark minds. He will provide the healing touch that Satyamites need.”

Mumbai, Feb. 5 He has always been up to the challenge, even if it meant taking on Swede tennis-ace Bjorn Borg at a match in Goa, is how Novartis India’s chief Mr Ranjit Shahani describes Mr Homi R. Khusrokhan, now appointed as special advisor to scam-hit Satyam.

Having spent 29 years at Glaxo Burroughs Wellcome, which was possibly his first challenge of integration, former colleagues recall Mr Khusrokhan as being affable, approachable, earthy and with a huge “likeability quotient”!

His finance background and his effective, inclusive style of getting work done makes him someone to look-up to, says one young former Glaxoite. And in what will augur well for Satyam, Mr Khusrokhan in his Glaxo days also worked closely with Mr Deepak Parekh, who is non-executive Chairman on GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceutical’s board. Mr Deepak Parekh was among the first members to be appointed on the recast Satyam board.

“Homi brings expansive global experience and the highest personal integrity. That he is competent goes without saying. He has the ability to motivate people and spark several minds. He will provide the healing touch that Satyamites need,” says Mr Shahani.

Not known to be a loner, he is a team player, an early bird who wakes up around 4.30 or 5 a.m., he adds. And with his wide networks, he will be able to bring that much needed confidence into Satyam’s customer base, says Mr Shahani.

A commerce graduate from Sydenham College of Commerce & Economics in 1963, Mr Khusrokhan is a chartered accountant, who did his post-graduation at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He retired as Managing Director of Tata Chemicals in December 2008 and prior to that was the Managing Director of Tata Tea. He joined the Tata Group in 2001.
