NDDB to provide support for dairy sector in Africa

Our Bureau

Ahmedabad, Feb 10 Following the visit of specialists from National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to Uganda and Tanzania, NDDB on Tuesday said it would support the World Bank initiative for South-South exchange in dairy sector.

On World Bank’s request, a team of NDDB specialists visited the two African countries as a part of the “South-South Experience Exchange Facility”. The National Dairy Boards of the two countries organised the visit of NDDB’s specialists to some rural areas, processing centres and urban markets to see their milk procurement, processing and marketing functions, according to an official.

WORKSHOP

The team from NDDB held discussions with milk producers, senior functionaries of cooperatives, dairy processors, government officials and representatives of other stakeholders. The visit culminated in the holding of a National Dairy Stakeholders Workshop in each country.

In these workshops, NDDB made a presentation on India’s experience in dairy development, current status and the proposed National Dairy Plan. NDDB has agreed to provide support by organising need-based training, capacity building and exposure visits for milk producers.
