Hardware Marketing - Trends PC sales rise 12% in first half
Our Bureau New Delhi, Feb. 10 Manufacturers Association of Information Technology (MAIT) forecast a flat year for personal computer sales in the current fiscal while releasing its April-September figures on Tuesday. The country’s hardware industry association has estimated that the total PC sales between April and September 2008, including both desktop computers and notebooks stood at 3.69 million units, a growth of 12 per cent over the same period last fiscal. “The overall consumption in the PC market was led by telecom, banking, education, BPO/IT-enabled services, and the e-governance initiatives of the Union and State governments. The global economic downturn has started reflecting on the domestic IT market as evidenced in the recent October-November-December quarter. We expect a flat market for PCs for the fiscal 2008-09,” said Mr Vinnie Mehta, Executive Director, MAIT, in a statement. The demand for desktop computers remained buoyant mainly with large and medium sized corporations continuing their spends. This has led to the desktop market recording a 12 per cent increase in sales at 2.91 million units. Within the desktop computers category, multinational brands had the lion’s share of 47 per cent in the first half of the fiscal 2008-09, while the share of Indian brands increased marginally. Notebook sales were driven mainly by the small and medium enterprises, whose share was over 63 per cent in the total sales of 0.77 million units in the first six months of the current fiscal. The notebook segment witnessed a 13 per cent increase compared to the corresponding period the previous fiscal. The association said that notebook sales had remained sluggish as offtake by the large establishments fell by 33 per cent. Household segment pushes PC sales up 26% in Q3 More Stories on : Hardware | Trends
