Dunlop Sahagunj on lower scale

Kolkata, Feb. 10 Dunlop India has reportedly forwarded a plan to reopen the Sahagunj facility in a limited scale on condition of reduction of manpower by approximately 550 from the existing 1,179. The company management discussed the possibility with its trade union representatives. According to trade union sources, in the first phase the company proposed to absorb 250 odd employees for maintenance followed by reopening of off-the-road tyre facility. In the third phase Dunlop proposes to reopen the industrial products (like belts) facility. To minimise working capital requirement, the company wants to suspend production of all kinds of tyres other than OTR. When contacted, Dunlop official sources refused to comment in this regard. Reportedly suffering from working capital crisis, Dunlop issued a suspension of work notice at the Sahagunj facility in end 2008. The other facility of the company at Ambattur is closed for almost a year. -Our Bureau
