Rupee slips by 15 paise

Mumbai, Feb. 10

The rupee closed about 15 paise lower against the dollar in a quiet market. It opened at Rs 48.7 and closed at 48.72, against the previous close of 48.56/57. Intra-day movement was barely eight paise. The overall strength of the dollar in the overseas market helped it to gain against the rupee as well, said a forex dealer with a private bank. The volatile domestic equity market was another reason for the weak rupee, the dealer said. In the overseas market the dollar was st eady against other global currencies. In the forwards market, the six-month closed at 2.07 per cent (2.16 per cent) and the one-year at 1.8 per cent (1.84 per cent).
