Goldman Sachs puts Rs 370 cr into NBFC arm

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Feb. 10 Goldman Sachs on Tuesday announced infusion of Rs 370 crore of capital in its wholly-owned NBFC Pratham Investments and Trading Private Ltd, raising its capital in the company to Rs 485 crore. In March of last year, Goldman Sachs had infused Rs 115 crore as capital in Pratham Investments.

Goldman Sachs plans to use this capital to expand credit trading and investing businesses here. “This capital infusion furthers our objective of building a full-service investment banking and securities platform in India,” said Jesse Lentchner, Managing Director and Head of Securities at Goldman Sachs in India.

Goldman Sachs had acquired the NBFC in 2008. It also had joint ventures with Kotak Mahindra Bank to offer financial services, but this ended in 2006. Goldman has a 20 per cent stake in a Chennai-based Shriram Credit Company. It bought the NBFC for Rs 300 crore in March of last year.
