Speck Systems teams up with Israel Aerospace Industries

Hyderabad, Feb. 10 Speck Systems Ltd has entered into an agreement with Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd (IAI) for manufacturing and service support of the latter’s mini and micro unmanned aerial vehicles product range in India.

“This is for the first time in India that a company has invested in the technology of developing and manufacturing UAVs in a large scale,” Mr K.C.M. Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of Speck Systems Ltd, said while addressing a press conference here.

Mr Kumar said the company’s strength in UAVs lies in the fact that it is equipped with the capability of providing a single window solution to the growing requirements in both military and civilian applications.

He also said that Speck can provide a total solution, right from integrating mission specific sensor, data downlink and capabilities to process and transfer the acquired data in the required format with the help of the base created in GIS applications and software development.

“We will be responsible for developing the market in the country and the market segment need not be restricted to India but can be used in countries where partners have agreements,” he said.

The agreement also gives the company scope for around 30 to 40 per cent indigenisation of work. The company initially expects a maximum investment of around Rs 100 crore and the target applications would be for military, disaster management, homeland security and police.

The company is also looking at commercial production of optical cameras for capturing aerial digital images. “We have gone for the calibration tests in the US and hope to get into commercial production and supply even to the developed markets in the next six months,” Mr Kumar said.

The company is also looking at deploying the light detection and ranging (LIDAR) technology in India as and when the Government permits. “The technology is currently being used in other countries and we have a subsidiary there and are constantly upgrading the technology,” he said.
