Chennai, March 3 Tata Motors has showcased three models at the Geneva Motor Show – the Tata Nano Europa, the international version of its low-cost car Nano; the Tata Prima, a concept luxury sedan; and the Tata Indica Vista EV, an electric vehicle based on the new generation Indica Vista hatchback.

According to a Tata Motors press release, the Tata Nano Europa will be powered by a three-cylinder all-aluminium MPFI engine with a five-speed automatic transmission and electric power steering. The car will have features such as ABS (Anti-lock Brake System), ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) and air bags.

The Nano Europa – 3.29 metre long and 1.58 metre wide with a wheelbase of 2.28 metre – is intended for launch in select international markets, according to the release.

It said that the Tata Prima, a concept luxury sedan designed by Pininfarina, was an iteration of the next generation luxury sedan from the company. It combined the design characteristics of the Tata brand with sporty curvatures to create a coupe-like silhouette.

The other model displayed by the company – Tata Indica Vista EV – would have a predicted range of up to 200 km. The car would use super polymer lithium ion batteries.

Tata Motors’ electric vehicles would be produced in association with Miljo Grenland/Innovasjon, Norway.

Tata Motors’ UK subsidiary, Tata Motors European Technical Centre Plc, has a 70 per cent stake in Miljo. The first such vehicle to be developed by the company was the Indica EV, which was undergoing extensive tests in Europe, the release said.

The release quoted Mr Ratan Tata, Chairman, Tata Motors, as saying at the auto show that the Prima was an iteration of a luxury sedan that the company would introduce.

The Indica Vista EV represented the company’s work on alternate technologies.
