NTPC to borrow funds for expansion

New Delhi, March 4 NTPC Ltd plans to borrow around 70 per cent of the total Rs 17,700 crore it needs for expansion plans during 2009-10, a company official said.

“Most of our capital expenditure will go into our power generation projects. This fiscal, our capex was Rs 12,380 crore. But next fiscal it is going to be higher because 18,180 MW of capacity is under construction,” NTPC’s Director Finance, Mr A.K. Singhal, said at the sidelines of an energy conference here.

NTPC, which has an installed generation capacity of 29,843 MW, is currently involved in the capacity addition of around 22,430 MW by 2012.
