Economy States - Karnataka Pilot ID card project at Karnataka village Our Bureau Mangalore, March 12 Sasihithlu, a village in Dakshina Kannada district, has been selected to implement the pilot project of National Identity Card programme, said Mr V. Ponnuraj, Deputy Commissioner of the district. Addressing presspersons here, Mr Ponnuraj said that Sasihithlu is one among four villages in the country selected for the project. The rest are in Maharashtra, Orissa and the Andamans. The card includes information related to the individual, along with his/her bio-metric data. Fingerprint details are being collected for this purpose. The pilot project at Sasihithlu village was initiated one-and-a-half months ago. Nearly 40-50 per cent of the work has been completed; the process of photo capturing and fingerprint collection is on. The village has a population of around 2,800, Mr Ponnuraj said. Mr Ponnuraj hoped the National Identity Card will become a reality across India by the 2011 census. The pilot project has nothing to do with the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April-May, he said.
