Pratim Ranjan Bose Kolkata, March 12 Reliance Industries has intimated to gas transmission agencies GAIL ((India) Ltd and Gujarat State Petronet Ltd (GSPL) that production from KG D6 field would begin next week. Gas was expected to start flowing to western and northern markets by the first week of April. While GAIL will carry the gas to a large part of the northern markets, GSPL will transport it to consumers in Gujarat. Both the transmission companies have created the necessary infrastructure and had been waiting for RIL to confirm the delivery schedule. Sources said that in a recent communication to both the companies, RIL had indicated to bring the field into production beginning this month. “We are expecting the gas to start flowing through our systems in early April,” a senior official in GAIL confirmed, adding that the energy value of the gas was expected to be not less than 8500 Kcal/standard cubic metre. While Reliance Industries did not respond to queries in this regard, sources say that the company had targeted to commence production beginning March 10, which could not take place owing to technical reasons.
According to sources, the company is now targeting to bring the field into production tentatively on March 23. The initial production would be used in building adequate pressure in Reliance’s East-West trunk pipeline. According to available information, the trunk pipeline has a capacity to carry approximately 125 million standard cubic metre a day (mscmd) against an initial production of approximately 5 mscmd.
