Montek leads Indian delegation for G-20 meet

New Delhi, March 12

The Planning Commission Deputy Chairman, Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, is leading the Indian delegation for the meeting of G-20 Finance Ministers in the UK on March 14.

The weekend summit at West Sussex near London is being seen as the main preparatory meeting of finance ministers and central bankers ahead of the heads of State Summit in London on April 2.

Four working groups on regulation, cooperation, IMF reform and the World Bank will present their reports at the G-20 Finance Ministers meeting.

Also part of the Indian delegation are the Economic Affairs Secretary, Mr Ashok Chawla, and the Joint Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs in the Finance Ministry, Dr Alok Sheel.

The Reserve Bank of India Governor, Dr D. Subbarao, and the Deputy Governor, Dr Rakesh Mohan, will represent the central bank at the meeting on March 14.

The G-20 grouping has become the de-facto multilateral body dealing with the global financial crisis.

It gained prominence after the world leaders agreed last year that the G-7 grouping of industrialised nations had a narrow scope with the neglect of countries such as Brazil, India, China and other emerging markets.
