Nokia rejigs India operations

Three new business segments, apex level changes.

New Delhi, March 15 To keep its leadership position intact, mobile handset maker Nokia has restructured its organisational set up in India.

Nokia has structured its business into three segments – marketing, operator and retail. Before this Nokia had a devices unit responsible for creating the best device portfolio.

In addition, Nokia has two other business divisions – Services & Software, reflecting Nokia’s emphasis on growing its offering of consumer Internet services and enterprise solutions and software and markets; and supply chains, sales channels and marketing activities.

Second restructuring

This is the second restructuring carried out by Nokia since 2007. Earlier, Nokia had divided its operations under mobile phones, enterprises and multimedia businesses.

Mr D. Shivakumar, Vice-President and Managing Director, Nokia India, told Business Line, “As a dynamic organisation Nokia believes in constantly changing and evolving our business strategy. The new structure is in line with our vision to be closer to our customer segments.”

Apex level changes

Mr Vineet Taneja has been appointed as the Director for Marketing while Mr Shankar Subramanian is the Director for Retail segment. Mr V. Ramnath will look after the operator business. Mr Vipul Sabarwal, who was country head of Nokia’s operations in Thaliand, has been made Director Sales. Mr Bob McDougal, who was earlier India Sales Head, has moved as Country head Nokia, Indonesia.

Mr Devinder Kishore, who was Marketing Head Nokia India, has moved to Finland in a global role for entry and e-mail products and services.

Nokia’s Services platform launched under the Ovi brand will be under the marketing division.

The company is in talks with major music labels to launch virtual music stored which will enable mobile users to download music.

“We have evolved from selling just a device or a handset to providing solutions. So we are positioning our products accordingly,” Mr Shivakumar said.
