Panigrahi, Professor of Neurosurgery, Nizams Institute of Medical Sciences. Speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of a workshop on current concepts in spine surgery, Dr Panigrahi said through modern technology, it is possible for the surgeons to perform surgery through incisions less than an inch in length while leaving the muscle virtually intact. “This referred to as minimally invasive surgery is proven to be highly useful in curing slipping of the backbone, a serious disorder affecting over 5 per cent of patients suffering from backbone disorders,” he said. The cost of surgery could be around Rs 90,000. “We have performed 15 minimally invasive surgeries so far and the results are good,” he added.
