4 shortlisted for TRAI top post

The race for the post of Chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, has now reduced to four applicants. This includes Mr Yashwant Bhave, Secretary, Consumer Affairs; Mr Arun Ramnathan, Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mr S.D. Saxena, former Director BSNL, and Mr K. Sridhara, Member, Telecom Commission.

The screening committee held interviews on Wednesday to shortlist the candidates.

Of the 29 applications received for the post, the screening committee had earlier shortlisted 13, based on their experience and knowledge of the telecom sector.

Of the four who have made the final cut, three applicants have had long stints in the telecom sector.

Mr Saxena had been handling BSNL’s finances for many years till he retired recently. Mr Bhave was in DoT and was also the Government’s nominee on VSNL’s board. Mr Sridhara has also held various posts in DoT.
