Our Bureau

Bangalore, April 1 Hiring activity in the country which had perked up in January kept up the pace and was up by five per cent in February compared to the previous month.

Naukri JobSpeak, a monthly update of Naukri.com’s job index, shows that the overall job index inched up from 738 in January to 774 in February.

Uptrend in banking

Sectors that saw recruitment activity during the month were oil and gas, auto, construction, pharma and insurance. There was an upward trend in the hiring of banking and insurance professionals. But demand for professionals in hospitality sector saw a downward trend.

A city-wise analysis shows that Chandigarh and Ahmedabad topped the hiring list.

Out of the top 13 cities tracked, seven cities (Delhi, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Baroda and Jaipur) saw an increase in hiring activity during the month compared to January.

While the maximum number of jobs continued to be in the 4-7 years category, it was the senior management recruitment that saw a push in hiring in February.

The index has been calculated based on job listings added to the site month-on-month. July 2008 has been taken as the base month with a score of 1,000 and the subsequent monthly index is compared with data for July.
