Human Resources ‘Expat hiring to come from Tier II firms’ Our Bureau Bangalore, April 25 A large portion of expatriate hiring in India in the next couple of years will come from Tier II companies, according to Global Crosswalk Inc, the US-based global talent management company. Speaking at the launch of its services in the country, Mr Naren Balasubramaniam, Co-founder and Advisor of GCI, said the company would also tap Tier I companies to offer talent management services such as global leadership and their cultural competence, cross cultural training, language fluency/accent neutralisation, global HR programme strategies. Emphasising the need for leaders to develop capabilities to thrive and succeed in a multicultural environment, Mr Balasubramaniam said statistics showed that about 60 per cent of all cross border ventures do not work out as planned. While a company incurs an average cost of about $1 million to send an employee and family on a three-year expat assignment, experience has shown that about 35 per cent of these employees prematurely return home without completing their assignment. With about one-third of the initiatives involving global teams failing to produce expected results, companies are worried about their lack of strategy and capability to engage global teams, he pointed out. GCI works in the areas of global talent management (global leadership and their cultural competence, cross cultural training, language fluency/accent neutralisation, global HR programme strategies), global HR services (mergers and acquisitions, cultural strategies, corporate diversity strategies, expat talent assessment and repatriate services, global mobility expat services) and offers industry specific services (IT/BPO buyer and provider side capabilities, healthcare cultural competence).
