Our Bureau

Bangalore, April 25 The World Gold Council is hoping for a good Akshaya Tritiya this year. The industry body, along with various partners, has announced special promotional offers, new collections, prizes and discount offers on gold purchases.

Mr Ajay Mitra, Managing Director, World Gold Council, Indian Subcontinent, said, “Indians regard Akshaye Tritiya as one of the most auspicious days in the year. Gold jewellery has a very deep-rooted connection to Akshaya Tritiya, so it is encouraging to provide consumers with additional options and offers on this day. There is a significant increase in gold sales during this auspicious period each year and we are confident that the trend will continue this year as well.”

Retailing gold

The World Gold Council has partnered with India Post to retail gold through India Post outlets. Consumers are assured of a 0.5 gm medallion on purchase of 10 gm medallions, from April 14 to May 4. Winners of a lucky draw could win a trip to Switzerland or gold medallions.

Jewellers such as Gitanjali Maya Gold, GoldPlus, Malabar Gold, Hazoorilal, Bhima Jewellery and Prince Jewellery have also announced various offers. HDFC Bank is also promoting its gold bars. The Akshaya Tritiya day, considered a good day to buy gold, falls on April 27 this year.
