Sripathy, Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary, at a function to inaugurate Great Lakes Institute at Mamallapuram, in Chennai on Tuesday. —: Bijoy Ghosh Our Bureau Chennai, April 28 Great Lakes Institute of Management (GLIM) is considering introducing a MBA course in Energy Management, in collaboration with the Global Energy Management Institute, which is a part of the Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston, US. Business Line has learnt from Bauer College officials, who were here to take part in the inauguration of the new Rs 55-crore campus of GLIM, that the institute’s students could benefit from lectures and other resources of the Global Energy Management Institute and also spend a few months in Houston as part of their curriculum. The contours of the course are yet to be clearly defined — at the moment, it is under consideration. GLIM’s new campus – a platinum-rated green building, which is fully day-lit and recycles all water – was inaugurated today by Mr Adi Godrej, remotely, from the inaugural function held today in Chennai. Funded from a term loan from Indian Bank and contributions (Bajaj Group has committed Rs 1 crore), the campus will also feature a residential block. Inaugurating the building, Mr Godrej said that a challenge facing the country’s development ambition that is bigger than infrastructure is that of developing human resources. The former UN Under Secretary General, Mr Shashi Tharoor, noted that 65 per cent of Indians were under 30 years of age. “It is your country. Take it back,” he told the audience that consisted predominantly of students. The CMD of Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Company Ltd, Mr Jamshyd Godrej, said the new campus would help impart education with deep understanding of environment. Mr Madhur Bajaj, Vice-Chairman, Bajaj Auto Ltd, said the company has donated Rs 25 lakh for the new building and plans to contribute Rs 75 lakh more. Leadership is the key in any development process and asked the students to fill the lacuna across the board to sustain leadership values. Prof Bala V. Balachandran, Founder and Honorary Dean, Great Lakes Institute of Management, said the new campus would give students the right environment, besides better faculties.
