Industry & Economy - Anti-dumping
Dumping duty proposed on Chinese ceramic tiles

Our Bureau

New Delhi, April 28

The Designated Authority in the Commerce Ministry has recommended imposition of provisional anti-dumping duty on imported ceramic tiles from China, following a complaint from H&R Johnson (India) Ltd and Kajaria Ceramics Ltd.

The product under probe is Ceramic Glazed tiles other than vitrified tiles where at least one of the sides (length or width) exceeds 17 inches/431.80 millimetres/43.18 centimetres/1.4167 feet.

After launching a preliminary probe, the Authority said the subject goods have been exported to India from China below its normal value and the domestic industry has suffered material injury due to dumping.

Even as the Authority took up the complaint against nine leading exporters from China, it has not imposed any anti-dumping duty on the subject goods. Instead, it recommended an anti-dumping duty of Rs 137 a sq. m of Chinese ceramic tiles being exported from China by any exporter other than combination of the three exporters who were not found exporting the subject goods, the Authority held.
