Swine flu: NRI’s samples sent for examination

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, April 30 With reports of a swine flu case creating panic, the Andhra Pradesh Government has sent the samples of a 27-year-old NRI from Texas to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases in Delhi for examination.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr L V Subramanyam, Principal Secretary (Health), has said that the youth, who had returned from Texas (where reports of swine flu were reported), had approached a private hospital.

“They directed him to the Institute of Preventive Medicine. The doctors at the institute asked the youth to go to the Government Chest Hospital for further screening,” he said.

But he did not turn up there, giving some anxious moments to the Health Ministry officials. They, however, could trace him to his home and got his samples.

“We are waiting for the results,” he said.

Mr K Rosaiah, AP Minister for Finance and Health, said that the Government had procured Tamiflu, a drug manufactured at the city-based Hetero.
