ASB holds convocation

Thiruvananthapuram, April 30 Young people should look at turning adverse circumstances such as the current global economic downturn into an opportunity, said the State Finance Minister, Dr T. M. Thomas Isaac.

Speaking at the third convocation ceremony of the city-based Asian School of Business (ASB) today, he pointed out that the recession offers young people an opportunity to acquire new skills and practise new principles. Taking note of the current economic environment, management graduates should be more realistic about compensation packages, he said.

He also asked the new graduates to make the most of the opportunities that Kerala offers knowledge-based industries.

Addressing the gathering, Mr S. Ramadorai, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Consultancy Services, who is also the Chairman of ASB’s Board of Governors, called on the new graduates to think out of the box and make use of the opportunities that India offers.

Annual report

Earlier, while presenting his annual report, Dr K. Ramakrishnan, Director, ASB, said that 50 per cent of the outgoing batch of students had received campus placements. The remaining students are expected to be placed in appropriate jobs by the end of May or early June, he added.

ASB, which runs a full-time post-graduate programme in management, also offers several short-term executive development programmes. The institute currently operates out of leased space in Technopark Thiruvananthapuram and expects to move to its own campus by early 2010.
