Cement States - Other States Delhi cement prices impacted by imports from Pak Our Bureau Mumbai, May 4 Cement prices in Delhi seem to have been impacted by the large scale imports from Pakistan. Cement producers from Pakistan are despatching their surplus produce at marginal costing. “They have reduced price from $75-76 a tonne to $52-53 a tonne now. The quantity imported via Wagah border in April is expected to be about 45,000 to 50,000 tonnes which was also the case in the corresponding month of the previous year,” said Mr J. Datta Gupta, Chief Commercial Officer, ACC. Withdrawal of CVD (countervailing duty) and import duty will therefore only reduce revenue earning of the Government and improve margins of the Pakistani cement producers, he added. The Government recently expressed its desire to consider abolishing CVD and import duty to contain the raising retail prices. The retail price of ACC cement in April was quoted at Rs 235 a (50 kg) bag in Delhi against Rs 242 a bag in March, a reduction of Rs 5 a bag, said Mr Gupta. During the corresponding months of the previous year (April-May 2008) the retail prices in Delhi for ACC Cement was Rs 242 a bag, he added. The imported cement are sold at Rs 220-225 a bag in Amritsar More Stories on : Cement | Other States
