Trade & Labour Unions Bank unions, IBA talks fail K.R.Srivats New Delhi, June 4 Thursday’s conciliatory talks involving the unions and the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) were unsuccessful. The strike call for June 12 given by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) stands, according to its convenor, Mr C. H. Venkatachalam. The Chief Labour Commissioner, Mr S. K. Mukhopadhyay, who chaired the meeting, is understood to have advised the bank unions and the IBA to settle the issues on a bilateral basis within seven days. But the IBA was ready to enter into talks with the bank unions only if the latter agreed to withdraw the strike call. This pre-condition was not acceptable to the UFBU. “If IBA calls us for talks without insisting on the strike call withdrawal, we will certainly go in for discussions. But the pre-condition is not acceptable to us,” Mr Venkatachalam told Business Line . The UFBU, a representative body of nine bank unions, had called for the strike after the earlier round of talks between the bank unions and the IBA failed. They could not reach a settlement over the wage revision negotiations and resolve matters pertaining to pension option.
