Fishermen at work in Vembanad lake near Alappuzha. A recent fish count in the lake identified 62 species of fish and 14 species of crustaceans and molluscs including shrimp, as against 50 and 11 species respectively last year. The study was conducted by Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and Environment (ATREE).
