New Products & Services States - Gujarat Barista Lavazza to go veg in Ahmedabad Our Bureau Ahmedabad, June 15 Coffee chain Barista Lavazza will serve only vegetarian food in its outlets in the city now, said Mr Sanjay Countinho, Chief Operating Officer. “We are not excluding non-vegetarians, we are including all those vegetarians who would not come to our outlet because we served non-vegetarian food. Besides, we believe in going with the sentiments of the place and our dip stick survey showed that this is what people wanted,” he said. Ahmedabad is the only city where Barista will go vegetarian, while continuing to serve non-vegetarian food in its outlets in other cities, he added. Barista Lavazza plans to invest Rs 6 crore in opening 12 company-owned outlets in the State this year. Amongst other places, Vapi and Surat have been identified as new outlet locations, while two stores would come up on the highway. While the focus of the company will remain on independent outlets, it is exploring options of setting up outlets in metro stations, airports and places which see a guaranteed human traffic. However, malls are not a priority for Barista as they do not assure footfalls and Barista would have to depend on the profitability of malls to keep its business going. It also plans to launch soft alcoholic drinks such as beer and wines in its select Crème outlets, which strive to give a more lounge-like ambience.
