Foreign Trade Anand Sharma will lead team to US-India business meet Our Bureau New Delhi, June 15 The Commerce Minister, Mr Anand Sharma, will attend the US-India Business Council (USIBC) meeting in Washington on June 17 accompanied by the representatives from trade and industry and apex chambers. The US Secretary of State, Ms Hillary Clinton, will deliverthe keynote address and the US Secretary of Commerce, Mr Gary Locke, will also address on the occasion. Mr Sharma will speak on “India and the US – Partners for Prosperity”. Mr Sharma will also meet Mr Ronald Kirk, the US Trade Representative and discuss about the present scenario of the Doha Round Negotiations. On June 18, Mr Sharma will have a one-on-one meeting with Mr Gary Locke. The Commerce Minister will also address on “India in a Globalised World.” On June 19, he will meet the United Nations Secretary General in New York and will also deliver the keynote address at a CII/Asia Society event. The US is India’s largest trading partner and foremost export destination. Currently, it accounts for 12.71 per cent of India’s exports and around 8.36 per cent of the country’s imports. Major items of exports to the US are: gems and jewellery, RMG cotton, machinery and instruments, drugs, pharma, and fine chemicals. Major items of import from the US to India are: fertilisers, machinery, electronic goods, instruments and petroleum. The US ranks third in the Foreign Direct Investment flow to India. FDI inflows during April 2008-March 2009 were $1,802 million. The total FDI equity inflow from the US from April 2000 to March 2009 amounts to $ 6,335 million, an official release said here.
