Our Bureau

Bangalore, June 17 Christel House International, which builds learning centres in impoverished neighbourhoods across the globe, will build a learning centre at Lavasa, a hill city coming up near Pune.

In a management agreement between Lavasa Corporation Ltd and Christel House India Pvt Ltd, the former will construct a 60,000-sq-ft school for children of the economically backward families in the area and the latter will offer services related to the operation and management of the school.

After the first phase of construction is complete, expected by April 2010, students up to Class II can be accommodated. “We will subsequently expand to cover about 780 students up to Class XII by June 2014,” said Mr Raju Shahani, Executive Advisor, Christel House India.

Lavasa, being developed by Hindustan Construction Company, has around 12,500 acres for development. The project already has 12,000 construction workers whose children could be potential students for the school.

HCC will invest around Rs 20 crore for the school infrastructure and continue to invest Rs 4-5 crore every year for operating the school, said Mr Nathan Andrews, Executive Vice-President, Lavasa Corporation Ltd.
