Hyderabad, June 23

The Israeli Ambassador to India, Mr Mark Sofer, today said that an Israeli company is all set to establish one of the largest dairy projects in the world in Andhra Pradesh.

“We have had discussions with the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, and discussed various issues relating to the proposal. The State Government promised necessary support in setting up this project,” Mr Sofer said.

Addressing traders and businessmen here today at an interactive meeting hosted by Federation of Andhra Pradesh Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FAPCCI) on Israel-India trade potential, Mr Sofer said that the world’s third largest pesticide and herbicide company based in Israel will also set up their manufacturing base in India in Andhra Pradesh.

Both these projects will come up before the end of this year and could potentially employ hundreds or even a few thousand people. However, other details of the projects were not forthcoming.

Referring to economic ties between the two countries in the civilian area, Mr Sofer said Israel is working with both the Central and State Governments and formalising some of the projects in India. These cover broader issues relating to agriculture and allied sectors, information technology and homeland security.

Referring to IT and hitech areas, the Israeli Ambassador said that there is great potential for cooperation in the hardware manufacturing.

On issues relating to security at airports and other large establishments and general civilian security, Mr Sofer said that Israel would give its best to ensure that there is peace and harmony and innocent civilians are protected from terrorism.

Earlier, the Chairman of Foreign Trade Committee of FAPCCI, Mr Srinivas Ayyadevara, felt that early clearance to free trade regime will boost bilateral trade.
