Brands Arrow to re-enter women’s western wear segment Bindu D. Menon New Delhi, June 29 Premium menswear brand Arrow, from the Arvind stable, is looking to diversify into women’s formal wear after an earlier unsuccessful stint. The company, which had undertaken restructuring of its brands, said it is focusing on retail expansion besides enriching its product portfolio with a slew of international brands. “Women’s formal wear business is growing in India. We launched it in 2005 but withdrew after the slack response. Now the market is evolving and we are re-launching the category by September,” Mr J. Suresh, CEO, Arvind Brands, told Business Line. To launch I-ZodThe largest clothing brand in India, which has Wrangler, Lee and home-grown labels such as Newport, Flying Machine and Excalibur under its fold, will also introduce the US sportswear brand I-Zod in India. Earlier this year, it had spun off businesses into wholly owned subsidiaries to bring financial focus. The retail plan is seen as a diversification from a fabric and apparel company to branded apparel retail chain. Last month, the company launched Polo Association under a licensing agreement. Mr Suresh said the company is on track its Rs 400-crore investment plan earmarked for expansion between 2008 and 2012. “We have spent about Rs 100 crore for expanding the product portfolio.” Arvind Brands posted a turnover of Rs 440 crore in 2008-09 and plans to increase it by 20 per cent to Rs 550 crore this fiscal.
