Fuelling a scramble

Fastest fingers first: Fuel prices are an emotional issue. The scramble among television and print journalists for a detailed press release during the announcement of a hike in price of petrol and diesel was symptomatic of the fierce competition in the media to be first with the news. Caught on camera are not just the Petroleum Minister, Mr Murli Deora (middle), the Minister of State, Mr Jitin Prasada, and the Petroleum Secretary, Mr R. S. Pandey (right), pronouncing the fuel price hikes, but also the chaos that ensued among the media persons. — Ramesh Sharma
