Fuel price hike

This refers to the report “Petrol price raised by Rs 4 and diesel Rs 2; cooking fuels spared” (Business Line, July 2).

Since elections are not round the corner, the Government is justified in hiking the price of petrol by Rs 4 per litre and diesel by Rs 2 per litre.

The rich may be impervious to this hike. But the middle-class and the poor will feel the brunt of it, as it will push up the prices of all essential goods and services.

The price hikes may, however, arrest (statistically) the negative inflationary trend experienced by the nation today.
