Manipal K-12 plans chain of schools

Our Bureau

Bangalore, July 2 Manipal K-12, a venture of the Manipal Education and Medical Group, created to own and manage a chain of schools across the country runs eight schools under its brand name and plans to have at least 100 schools in five years.

It has taken over six schools in Mysore and Kathmandu and set up two, one each in Jaipur and Mangalore.

Last year, Manipal Group picked up a stake in Bangalore-based Edurite Technologies which is a wholly owned subsidiary of online tutoring company TutorVista, which is an ICT services provider to over 3,000 primary and secondary schools across the country.

The partnership announced the launch of brand Manipal K-12 which will provide complete management services to existing and new schools under the brand name Manipal Schools, as well as ICT based school learning solutions and tutorials.

K-12 model

Under the K-12 model, Manipal will partner schools in two ways: own and manage new schools under the Manipal K-12 brand name and also take over existing mid-rung schools that have not been able to scale up.

“We will help them in all aspects: curriculum to pedagogy, management and school administration, teacher hiring and training and basically setting up a strong academic process,” says Ms Meena Ganesh, CEO and Managing Director, Manipal K-12 Education (P) Ltd.

Manipal K-12 has had three rounds of funding including $19 million in the latest round — $12.5 million from the UK-based publishing giant Pearson Group and another $6.5 million from the existing investors Lightspeed Venture Partners and Manipal Education and Medical Group.
