Our Bureau

Hyderabad, July 2 Satyam Computer Services (now renamed Mahindra Satyam) may have brought some disgrace to the IT fraternity in India and its founder Ramalinga Raju may be still languishing in prison.

But, Satyam still topped the list of exporters from the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) and IT SEZs in Andhra Pradesh for 2008-09.

According to the figures released by the AP Department of IT and STPI, Hyderabad for 2008-09 on Thursday, Satyam topped the list of exporters, clocking a turnover of Rs 4,231.90 crore, almost one-eighth of the total export turnover from the State of Rs 32,509 crore.

It outpaced firms such as Infosys, Wipro and Microsoft, which notched up turnover of Rs 3094.31 crore, Rs 2540.90 crore and Rs 1286.20 crore respectively. TCS finished fifth in the list.

Tentative figures

But,there is a rider. Both the State IT Department and the STPI, Hyderabad, are quick to point out that these figures are only “tentative”. “These are whatever figures we got from the existing managements of the companies towards the end of 2008 and we have done whatever certification we could, but there would be some alterations when the final figures come out,” a senior STPI official said.

Officials admit that when the true picture regarding the Satyam figures emerge, there could be certain changes in the export performance chart .
