Marginal rise in ACC sales in June
Our Bureau
Mumbai, July 3 ACC, one of the country’s largest cement producers, has reported a marginal rise of one per cent in despatches at 1.81 million tonnes (mt) in June, against 1.79 mt recorded in the corresponding period last year.
Production rose four per cent to 1.83 mt (1.75 mt).
Ambuja Cement despatches were up eight per cent at 1.58 mt against 1.46 mt last year. Production jumped nine per cent to 1.60 mt (1.47 mt).
“Ambuja Cement and ACC have managed to sell less than what they had produced as dealers, especially in western parts of India, tend to de-stock ahead of monsoon when demand normally falters,” said an analyst.
Cement production at the Aditya Birla Group, which includes Grasim Industries and UltraTech Cement, rose 20.6 per cent to 3.08 mt, the company said in a statement. Sales increased 21.7 per cent to 3.14 mt.
Jaiprakash Associates, one of the prominent players in the North, sold 0.80 mt, 29 per cent higher than last year. Output was up 20 per cent to 0.77 mt.
Shares of ACC and Ambuja Cement on the BSE were up at Rs 766.9 and Rs 90.8. Grasim Industries was marginally up at Rs 2,408 and UltraTech closed higher at Rs 705. Jaiprakash Associates was up three per cent at Rs 214 on Friday.
