Industry & Economy - Budget
Incentivise entertainment business

Entertainment business is at an inflection point in the country. India has the potential to become a major entertainment/media player on the global stage.

If given right incentives, it can become a major revenue driver. In India, entertainment industry provides affordable entertainment to the masses.

On the international front, it has a potential to earn foreign exchange as well as export India’s culture to the world.

The Budget can be used as a major stimulus to achieve this objective. Some of the possible measures could be:

• A major fiscal push against piracy by creating an anti-piracy fund and enforcement mechanism for intellectual property rights violations.

• Incentives for growth of digital delivery and new media platforms such as IPTV, digital cable, DTH, and mobile TV.

• Export incentives on export of entertainment content/services and creating a common platform/infrastructure for promoting Indian films in the international arena.
